The best-selling new vehicle was the Honda, a tall wagon-style small car ( kei car ). It is the third year in a row that this car has placed first in the rankings. Sales of the N-Box increased 4.8% over 2018 to 253,500 vehicles, and this model comfortably kept ahead of the Daihatsu Tanto that came in second with 175,292 units sold.  

 

 

The N-Box was completely redesigned in September 2017 and became the best-selling car for 26 months until October 2019. Although the Daihatsu Tanto took the lead in the sales rankings in November, the N-Box he regained that position in December. The look and quality of small vehicles is improving now that the companies that make them are taking note of the N-Box's leadership and working to improve safety measures and increase interior space.  

All the kei cars in the top ten of the classification are of the "tall wagon" type. Their spacious interior and sliding doors that allow for easier getting on and off have made these cars especially popular with families and older drivers.
